Sooner or later, most 2004.5+ LLY/LBZ/LMM Duramax's will experience the dreaded "injector harness problem". GM routed the fuel injector wiring harnesses very tight on these engines, which can result in premature wire fatigue and connector-pin failure and/or intermittent loose connections at the fuel injector connector. When this happens, the ECM puts the engine into "limp mode" and shuts off half of the cylinders, resulting in an engine that sounds like it is about to scatter its parts all over the highway! Usually this will set "injector drive circuit" codes and/or misfire codes.
The common "ice pick fix" is a good trick to get you home, but generally it is not a good permanent repair solution, as the harness/connector/pins will eventually loosen up again.
To rectify the problem without requiring the customer to buy an entire new engine harness, GM released a "injector harness repair kit" which consists of new connectors, extra length in the wires to prevent fatigue, and heat-shrinkable butt-splice crimp connectors. Spliced on correctly, this offers a reliable, permanent fix. However the downside is that the list price at the GM dealer for this kit is over $270!!!
BT DieselWorks has a much more affordable solution for this problem in a simple, easy-to-install kit. Even if your truck has not had injector-harness problems, this is a smart pro-active maintenance procedure to ensure that you do not get stranded on the side of the road in the future.
Generally, the connectors going to fuel injector #2 and #7 are the most vulnerable; this kit is for servicing/repairing both #2 and #7 injector connectors/harnesses.
Do not be fooled by the low price; this kit does not cut any corners and is comprised of the following high-quality components:
Genuine BOSCH connectors, seals, pins
Automotive-grade 14-gauge TXL wire
USA-made zip ties to secure wires
USA-made marine-grade heat-shrink adhesive tubing to protect wires from future abrasion
USA-made Molex adhesive-lined butt-splice connectors
NOTE: If you have a "2006 LLY" truck, be sure to select the "2006-2010 LBZ/LMM" option
